Agility Systems' 'iLink' solution.

Agility Systems' new iLink solution is set to help the food and drinks industry to comply with a new EU directive (European Union Directive) A set of privacy requirements that took effect in 1998 and ordered European member nations to enact compliant legislation. It deals with the establishment of Data Protection Authorities, people's rights to personal information and enforcement.  and improve its supply chain systems at the same time.

The directive, which is being introduced from January 2005, states that all food and feed operators (including primary producers) must be able to trace and follow a food, feed or food-producing animal substance through all stages of production, processing and distribution. The move comes as governments in countries around Europe are under increasing pressure to build consumer confidence in light of safety fears such as BSE See Bombay Stock Exchange.

Agility Systems, which launched its new iLink version 3.7 earlier this year, has solutions that utilise existing ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer.  systems to make it easy for the food and drinks industry to trace a product's movement through production and the supply chain. Agility's software links data collected on a hand-held device to established ERP systems (irrespective of platform) by using wireless technology (REGSM or GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations. ) and automatically updates the ERP systems to reflect product movements. It ensures that systems are updated as movements happen from the point of manufacture/shipping, which minimises rework and data errors, thereby protecting ERP integrity.
