PALO ALTO and SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2000

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE NYSE

:A) has signed a memorandum of understanding A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between parties. It expresses a convergence of will between the parties, indicating an intended common line of action and may not imply a legal commitment.  (MOU (Minutes Of Usage) A metric used to compute billing and/or statistics for telephone calls or other network use. ) with SynTest Technologies Inc., a leading electronic design automation (EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board. ) and design-for-test (DFT DFT - discrete Fourier transform ) firm, to provide chip design consulting services. SynTest will initially work with Agilent customers as they design chips with multiple functional blocks, which are capable of being tested concurrently instead of sequentially, resulting in a significant cost-of-test reduction.

"As system-on-a-chip (SOC) devices become increasingly complex, manufacturers are integrating more functions on each chip," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Testing functional blocks of SOC devices concurrently will shorten the test time dramatically, thus representing a significant breakthrough in the overall cost of test. Our proposed alliance with SynTest will enable us to provide customers with the information they need to make this test cost reduction a reality."

"We are very pleased that Agilent is considering us for concurrent test consulting services," said L.T. Wang, president of SynTest. "Our goals have always been to help reduce the cost of test and debug, and to improve quality."

SynTest Test Services for Agilent Customers

SynTest would be offering Agilent customers backend test services, which include test program development, silicon debug, production test management and yield improvement. These services reduce test cost by taking advantage of Agilent's concurrent test architecture, and improve debug time and time to market by adding experienced SynTest consulting engineers to the team to build design for debug (DFD DFD - Data Flow Diagram ) tools for silicon debug and test.
