, either directly or indirectly, the intellectual property rights of any third party," said Mark Walker, executive vice president and general counsel for CompUSA. "CompUSA is pleased to resolve this matter with Agilent and will work with Agilent in the future if needed."

Agilent pioneered optical sensing optical sensing, in general, any method by which information that occurs as variations in the intensity, or some other property, of light is translated into an electric signal. This is usually accomplished by the use of various photoelectric devices.  for mouse technology and supplies these sensors to all optical mouse manufacturers worldwide. During the past 15 years, Agilent has invested extensively in research and development for these products and has developed an impressive intellectual property portfolio. This portfolio holds more than 100 imaging and navigation patents that cover the state-of-the-art optical sensing technology that is fundamental in making an optical mouse. Since their introduction, optical mouse products powered by Agilent's optical sensing technology have established themselves as the standard in computer input devices.

"Agilent respects the intellectual property rights of others and fully expects others to respect Agilent's intellectual property," said Jason Hartlove, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Sensor Solutions Division. "We continually evaluate whether optical mice made with non-Agilent optical mouse sensors infringe upon Agilent-owned patents. Agilent will protect its intellectual property and continue to invest in developing industry leading optical mouse components."

Agilent has shipped more than 100 million optical mouse sensors since the release of its first navigation sensor in 1999. More information about Agilent's optical mouse sensors is available at www.agilent.com/view/opticalnavigation.
