Agilent Technologies Receives Government Grant from Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs to Spur Communications Product R&D.

Agilent Integrated Platform Service Project to Provide

Innovative Environment for System-on-Chip Designs

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today received a government grant from the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to spur communications product research and development through an initiative called the Agilent Integrated Platform Service Project. The Agilent project helps Taiwan-based business ventures cooperate with international companies to either bring state-of-the-art technologies to communication product design R&D houses within Taiwan or co-develop technologies with foreign consulting teams.

The project is one part of the Taiwan MOEA SiSoft initiative, which defines an RF system-on-chip (SOC) design and verification platform and provides consulting services to benefit the nation's communications product design industries. The Agilent initiative outlines a service architecture customized for Taiwan's RF SOC design industry, an RF SOC design flow, and a training program for Taiwan's RF SOC personnel.

"Taiwan has a well-established manufacturing industry and we plan to use this base strength to extend our capabilities in communication system design," said Dr. Jung-Chiou Huang, general director, Department of Industrial Technology, MOEA. "We are very pleased to support this initiative with the proper funding, and to have Agilent's EDA platform for RF SOC design as we move ahead with our high-technology economic development agenda."

The platform consists of Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) and RF Design Environment (RFDE) -- both highly integrated electronic design automation (EDA) and simulation environments -- and the Agilent 93000 SOC Series test system. Combined, they constitute the recommended, integrated toolset for communications products and RF SOC design.

"We plan to establish a global SOC design and service center in Taiwan and encourage leading international companies to participate in this program," said Dr. Ching-Yen Tsai, Minister of State for the Executive Yuan.
