:A), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, today announced at the GSM World Congress the wireless industry's first integrated automatic cell planning and network design solution to help wireless service providers quickly plan and design networks using all major wireless technologies, including GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) The first high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that used the GSM technology. GPRS added a packet-switched channel to GSM, which uses dedicated, circuit-switched channels for voice conversations.  and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Part of IMT-2000, UMTS provides service in the 2 GHz band and offers global roaming and personalized features. . This integrated solution speeds the deployment of 2.5G and 3G wireless networks.

CellOpt automatic cell planning dramatically simplifies two significant challenges for the wireless engineer: system cell tuning and site selection. Given a group of cell sites in a network, CellOpt automatic cell planning will automatically examine hundreds of configurations of cell parameters and choose the most optimum settings for the network. When used in conjunction with WIZARD, CellOpt can help an RF engineer see the effects of the new settings in real time.

"Merging our solutions provides the industry with a reliable tool to manage the intricate task of cell planning and network design while minimizing infrastructure costs," said Eric McHenry, vice president of Agilent's Wireless Network Solutions Group. "As service providers migrate their networks, we will provide them with the solutions and services necessary to quickly deploy next-generation networks."

Network Planning and Design

The Agilent WIZARD is a Windows(R)-based RF design software tool that assists in planning voice and data networks. When used alone, WIZARD gives service providers the tools to improve their competitive position and maximize quality of service. WIZARD provides RF modeling capabilities and terrain-based propagation model analyses for all major wireless technologies through 3G. WIZARD also provides Monte Carlo Monte Carlo (môNtā` kärlō`), town (1982 pop. 13,150), principality of Monaco, on the Mediterranean Sea and the French Riviera.  analysis for UMTS networks Beginning in 2003 under the name 3, Hutchison Whampoa, a large port operator, has gradually launched their startup UMTS networks worldwide including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland and Sweden. .

Cellsite Configuration

The Agilent CellOpt automatic cell planning solution can be used to configure cellsite parameters on new or existing networks to increase network performance while helping to reduce unnecessary infrastructure purchases. Configuration parameters optimized by CellOpt automation cell planning include power, azimuth azimuth (ăz`əməth), in astronomy, one coordinate in the altazimuth coordinate system. It is the angular distance of a body measured westward along the celestial horizon from the observer's south point. , tilt, antenna-type, height, and site location.
