Agilent Technologies Introduces Industry's Most Comprehensive Service Test, Assurance Solutions for Converging Network Infrastructures.CHICAGO -- Tools Measure Quality of Service, Performance for Next-Generation Integrated Voice and Data Networks Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :A) today announced the industry's most comprehensive service test and assurance solutions for converging network infrastructures. The tools being demonstrated today enable component and network equipment manufacturers and service providers to make comprehensive quality of service (QoS) and performance measurements, allowing them to design, test and operate next-generation integrated voice and data networks. Today's communications networks are converging into a single infrastructure designed to reduce costs and enable new services. A key industry challenge is achieving high QoS for the latest technologies on converged networks. To address this challenge, Agilent is introducing the following products today: --Agilent N2X, a multiservices test solution for converging voice and data networks --Agilent OSS Oss (ôs), city (1994 pop. 62,141), North Brabant prov., S Netherlands; chartered 1399. It is a significant industrial center. Manufactures include meat products, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, and metalware. MPLS (1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS. (2) (MultiProtocol Label Switching) A standard from the IETF for including routing information in the packets of an IP network. The N2X combines leading-edge services testing with carrier-grade infrastructure testing and emulation to enable end-to-end testing of new services. Service offerings such as metro Ethernet, IP/VPN and L2oMPLS for ATM can be tested over the latest converged infrastructure standards, including multiprotocol label switching (networking) Multiprotocol Label Switching - (MPLS) A packet switching protocol developed by the IETF. Initially developed to improve switching speed, other benefits are now seen as being more important. (MPLS), IPv6 and next-generation SONET. More information about the Agilent N2X is available at www.agilent.com/comms/n2x. "Service providers deliver Ethernet services over different layers and technologies and see QoS as their biggest technical challenge in deploying new data services," said Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "The N2X's capability to test multiservices on multilayer networks from end to end is unrivaled and helps component and equipment manufacturers develop precise products that solve the QoS challenge. The N2X is an invaluable tool for service providers in the transition from legacy to next-generation networks." The Agilent OSS MPLS QoS Manager for Managed Services The Agilent OSS MPLS QoS Manager is an assurance solution that enables telecommunication providers to monitor the quality and network performance of VPN managed services by gathering data from active testing and Cisco VPN network elements. The solution's real-time problem detection, performance reports and service level agreement (SLA (1) (StereoLithography Apparatus) See 3D printing. (2) (Service Level Agreement) A contract between the provider and the user that specifies the level of service expected during its term. ) reporting provide insight to network health and performance, and transport QoS variables such as jitter A flicker or fluctuation in a transmission signal or display image. The term is used in several ways, but it always refers to some offset of time and space from the norm. For example, in a network transmission, jitter would be a bit arriving either ahead or behind a standard clock cycle , packet loss and latency. MPLS QoS Manager lets service providers correct potential problems before customers or SLAs are affected. Measurement Capabilities for OmniBER OTN Agilent also announced advanced generic framing procedure Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) is defined by ITU-T G.7041. This allows mapping of variable length, higher-layer client signals over a transport network like SDH/SONET. The client signals can be protocol data unit (PDU) oriented (like IP/PPP or Ethernet Media Access Control) or can (GFP GFP Green Fluorescent Protein GFP Generic Framing Procedure GFP Government Furnished Property GFP Generic Frame Protocol GFP General Framing Procedure GFP Global Functional Plane GFP Global Field Power GFP Grandmothers for Peace GFP Glutton for Punishment ), Ethernet payload, virtual concatenation (VCat), and link capacity adjustment scheme Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme or LCAS is a method to dynamically increase or decrease the bandwidth of virtual concatenated containers. The LCAS protocol is specified in ITU-T G.7042. Developed in partnership with leading-edge component suppliers and network equipment manufacturers, these second-phase measurements give design and test engineers more complete insight into standards conformance and QoS performance, and help resolve multivendor interoperability problems.
