Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 21, 2001

SOC Adds to Agilent's Product Portfolio to Deliver Industry's

Most Complete Solution for Next-Generation

Mobile Information Appliances

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today introduced a highly integrated system-on-chip (SOC) that will run next-generation, high-volume PDAs and battery-powered mobile information appliances such as Web browsers/tablets, smart phones and digital MP3 audio players. To speed time to market, Agilent also is offering customers a companion development system.

The new, low-power chip contains an ARM920T embedded processor core that operates at 200 MHz, and includes all necessary integrated functions to power future consumer handheld products. The SOC is part of an integrated circuit (IC) product portfolio that delivers a complete solution for next-generation mobile information appliances. Other "convergent" technologies from the Agilent product portfolio include CMOS camera sensors and processors; optical navigation sensors; RF ICs and Agilent's new miniature film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) duplexer for wireless handsets; and infrared transceivers for wireless data transfer. Agilent also provides an array of design and production test equipment.

"Having shipped over 100 million system chips, Agilent brings excellent technology and a proven track record to the high-growth PDA market," said Kathy Tobin, manager for Agilent's Mobile Information Solutions Initiative. "We are raising the bar for performance and integration in a single chip, and our broad portfolio of supporting technologies enables our customers to be first to market with next-generation features."
