:A), a leading provider of innovative technologies for communications and life sciences, today announced completion of its acquisition of ATN ATN Acute tubular necrosis, see there  Microwave Inc. The companies signed the initial agreement on Dec 6, 2000. ATN, founded in 1984, specializes in microwave measurement solutions for wireless and high-speed data communication applications. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The acquisition of ATN -- with 26 employees located in North Billerica, Mass. -- provides Agilent with products, engineering expertise, and intellectual property related to multiport device and balanced circuit A balanced circuit is a common method of transmitting many types communications of signals between two points on two wires. In a balanced circuit the individual signals on each wire are inverses of each other as referenced from an arbitrary midpoint between the two signals.  measurement, signal integrity measurement and analysis, large-signal and noise characterization, and electronic calibration of test instruments. These areas are increasingly critical in the design and manufacture of components used in the communications industry communications industry, broadly defined, the business of conveying information. Although communication by means of symbols and gestures dates to the beginning of human history, the term generally refers to mass communications. . Acquiring ATN allows Agilent to integrate these technologies earlier into its test platforms.

There are no plans to relocate the ATN operation and Agilent plans to continue building the ATN operation into a premier application development center for RF component-test solutions. ATN will be part of Agilent's component test business headquartered in Santa Rosa, Calif.
