:A) today announced it is the first test and measurement equipment manufacturer to join the ZigBee Alliance, an association of more than 100 companies working to enable cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard.

Agilent is working with the group's leading chipset A group of chips designed to work as a unit to perform a function. For example, a modem chipset contains all the primary circuits for transmitting and receiving. A PC chipset provides the electronic interfaces between all subsystems (see PC chipset for illustration).  manufacturers and integrators to create solutions that will ultimately help lower the cost of consumer appliances through the use of this open-standards connectivity platform.

The Agilent N4010A Wireless Connectivity Test Set is the industry's first ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 one-box test solution. Engineers now have a cost-effective, efficient means of ensuring their solutions are in full compliance with the ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 standards.

"We joined the ZigBee Alliance because we are serious about ensuring our customers have affordable, reliable testing solutions that are tailored to the unique demands these new technologies place on physical layer testing," said Earl Thomson Earl John Thomson (February 15, 1895 - April 19, 1971) was Canadian athlete, a specialist in the high hurdles.

Born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, Thomson moved to southern California at age 8, because the warm weather would be better for his mother.
, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Wireless Division. "Through our involvement with organizations such as this alliance, we will continue our momentum in developing cost-effective test solutions for emerging wireless connectivity technologies."

"We welcome Agilent's addition to the ZigBee Alliance and look forward to its contribution as a leading provider of test and measurement equipment," said Bob Heile, chairman of the ZigBee Alliance. "Providing test and measurement equipment that is tailored to the ZigBee standard will be invaluable in meeting the needs of Agilent's customers."

The N4010A test set promotes design confidence through accurate, repeatable measurements, expediting the design cycle and time-to-market for ZigBee devices. The test set operates with vector signal analyzer The vector signal analyzer (VSA) is a powerful tool that can perform many of the same measurement and characterization tasks that the spectrum analyzer (SA) can, but it can also perform many more useful digital demodulation functions.  (VSA VSA (in New Zealand) Voluntary Service Abroad ) software, creating a one-box solution that tests chipsets, modules and devices for compliance with ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 standards.
