Agilent Technologies Announces Industry's Most Comprehensive Test and Optimization Solution for Wireless Video Streaming Services; Platform Offers Service Providers View of RF Performance, Subscriber Experience Across All Wireless Technologies.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE NYSE

See: New York Stock Exchange
:A) today announced the industry's most comprehensive test and optimization solution to verify the quality of service (QoS) for wireless video streaming. The company's Network Optimization Platform supports voice, data and video telephony and now helps radio frequency (RF) engineers test, troubleshoot and optimize video streaming services. This end-to-end network testing solution correlates RF measurements and subscribers' service experience to reduce troubleshooting and problem-resolution time, producing a higher-performing network and better QoS.

Agilent's automated data service tests ensure high QoS for all major wireless services, including video streaming, video telephony, website browsing, e-mail, multimedia message service (MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) An enhanced transmission service that enables graphics, video clips and sound files to be transmitted via cellphones. Developed as part of the 3GPP project, MMS phones are generally backward compatible with SMS and EMS. ), short message service (SMS (1) (Storage Management System) Software used to routinely back up and archive files. Internet protocol that allows a computer to send files to or receive files from another computer. Like many Internet resources, FTP works by means of a client-server architecture; the user runs client software to connect to
data transfers. The solution is technology-independent, monitoring all wireless networks such as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) The GSM implementation of the 3G wireless phone system. Part of IMT-2000, UMTS provides service in the 2 GHz band and offers global roaming and personalized features. , CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band.  2000, EDGE, WLAN See wireless LAN.

Agilent's Network Optimization Platform is a comprehensive drive-test solution that measures network connection time, packet loss, buffer time, stream set-up time, jitter, bit rate measurements and other key video streaming performance indicators, giving RF engineers insight into their network's air interface performance.

"As wireless services evolve and become more complex, RF performance and coverage can become limiting factors," said Tom Walls, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Telecommunications Systems Division. "For example, with video streaming, lost packets are not re-sent as they are for voice and data services -- so carriers need optimal cellular coverage to ensure subscriber satisfaction. The Agilent drive-test solution's support for video streaming ensures high-quality services throughout geographic locations."
