: A) today announces the first set of tools to validate and debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  chip-set, server, server clusters or other designs using PCI-X (PCI eXtended) An enhanced PCI bus technology originally developed by IBM, HP and Compaq that is backward compatible with existing PCI cards. PCI and 32-bit PCI-X slots are physically the same, and PCI cards can plug into PCI-X slots.  technology. With the new Agilent E2929A and E2922A exerciser/analyzers, the company now provides a complete set of design verification tools to help chip and server manufacturers seeking to boost I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

E2929A PCI-X Exerciser and Analyzer

The Agilent E2929A PCI-X exerciser and analyzer is fully compliant with the 133MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  PCI-X specification, currently the fastest speed in high-end I/O systems in the computer industry. The new test card, which combines the capabilities of a protocol checker, state analyzer and exerciser, meets all of today's demands for debugging and evaluating high-end servers and components.

"Designers now can concentrate entirely on their core competencies without spending any time or resources developing tools to validate PCI-X based products. The availability of these new design verification tools provides design engineers with an enormous boost in reducing time to market," said Alois Hauk, general manager of Agilent's Boeblingen (Germany) Verification Solutions Operation.

The E2929A single-slot PCI-X exerciser and analyzer features complete PCI-X state analysis, real-time protocol checking and real-time performance measures. The E2929A offers fully programmable PCI-X master, target, completer and requester capabilities. These capabilities allow management of multiple split transactions. The new exerciser/analyzer also provides data memory, data generator, real-time data comparisons and programmable configuration space. The exerciser supports the Agilent protocol permutation One possible combination of items out of a larger set of items. For example, with the set of numbers 1, 2 and 3, there are six possible permutations: 12, 21, 13, 31, 23 and 32.

and randomization randomization (ranˈ·d·m  (PPR PPR

) technique, which allows engineers to validate and stress the PCI-X system with specific and repeatable test cases. The E2929A can be controlled by graphical user interfaces (GUIs) or by the C application programming interface (C-API).

Additional state analysis, protocol error detection and in-depth cross-bus analysis can be performed by connecting an Agilent 16700 logic analyzer with a FuturePlus Systems FS2104 analysis probe. This integration allows in-depth cross-bus analysis between the PCI-X bus and other system buses, such as the CPU CPU

bus. Complex root-cause analysis of the system under test is significantly improved and simplified because cross-bus analysis allows designers to get a clearer picture of system interaction.

E2922A PCI-X Master Target Test Card

The E2922A is a dedicated PCI-X exerciser that provides a fast and predictable way to set up PCI-X traffic and verify PCI-X protocol compliance -- a real time saver for semiconductor validation labs that need to populate large systems or test benches with test cards for the ultimate load and stress test.

"Both the E2922A and the E2929A significantly simplify stress testing Determining the durability of a system by pushing it to its limits. Stress testing a network is performed by transmitting excessive numbers of packets or attempting to break in illegally.  and compliance testing in large systems and at the lowest possible overall cost," said Hauk. "Both new design verification tools will help customers produce and deliver better products in less time."

The E2922A features the same protocol-checking capabilities as the E2929A and is programmed by the C-API.
