:A) today announced that Ned Barnholt, Agilent president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , has been named chairman of the company's Board of Directors. Barnholt replaces Gerald Grinstein Gerald Grinstein is the former CEO of Delta Air Lines, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, the world's second largest airline. Grinstein came to the position in 2004, after CEO Leo F. , who will retire from the board in March 2003. Grinstein, 70, will remain as lead director through February. Upon Grinstein's retirement, board member David Lawrence David Lawrence can refer to many people:
  • David Lawrence (cricketer) (born 1964), English cricketer.
  • David L. Lawrence (1889–1969), Governor of Pennsylvania and long-time Pittsburgh mayor
 will assume the position as lead director.

Grinstein became a director and non-executive chairman of Agilent's board when the company was launched in 1999. As the former chairman and CEO of both Burlington Northern and Western Airlines, Grinstein brought a wealth of experience in board management issues to Agilent, which had just been spun off from Hewlett-Packard. "Jerry was instrumental in helping us establish Agilent as an independent company," said Barnholt. "His guidance during these past three years has been immeasurable, and I look forward to a continuing relationship with him after he has stepped down from our board."

Barnholt, 59, was named president and CEO at the time of Agilent's spin-off from Hewlett-Packard in 1999. Prior to that, he served as executive vice president and general manager of HP's Measurement Organization. Barnholt began his career with HP in 1966.

Lawrence, chairman emeritus, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; Heidi Kunz, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Gap Inc.; Robert Herbold, executive vice president (part-time), Microsoft Corporation; A. Barry Rand, former chairman and CEO, Avis Group Holdings; James Cullen, former president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)
