Extremely portable and compact, iType is Agfa Monotype's latest font scaling technology that allows for the rapid generation of characters at virtually any point size. With iType, OEMs are able to build memory-constrained devices such as set-top boxes and Internet appliances with the ability to quickly generate high-quality text for on-screen displays. iType supports embedded bitmapped fonts for enhanced screen quality at smaller point sizes, character caching for improved character generation performance, concurrent disk/ROM support for dynamically storing additional fonts, and television closed-captioning capabilities that meet the Electronics Industries Alliance specification (EIA-708B).

iType includes two main components: a high-performance TrueType(R) rasterizer and a suite of fonts that are selected by the OEM. In addition to the TV pack which supports the EIA-708B standard for closed captioning, OEMs can choose from three other prepackaged pre·pack·age
