Agere Systems' Storage Division Readies for 65 Nanometers with Adoption of Mentor Graphics Calibre.

WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- Mentor Graphics Mentor Graphics, Inc (NASDAQ: MENT) is a US-based multinational corporation dealing in electronic design automation (EDA) for electrical engineering and electronics, as of 2004, ranked third in the EDA industry it helped create.  Corporation (Nasdaq: MENT) today announced that the storage division at Agere Systems Agere Systems Inc. was an integrated circuit components company based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, in the United States. Effective April 2, 2007, it was merged into LSI Corporation. (R) has adopted a comprehensive collection of the Calibre(R) tools from Mentor. The set of tools in use at Agere include Calibre nmDRC, Calibre LVS LVS Linux Virtual Server

. Agere chose the Calibre tool suite primarily due to Calibre's extensive design rule file support from world-class foundries.

"The Calibre tool suite delivers, at this technology node, the performance needed for our physical verification Physical verification

," said Roland Krebs, Senior Manager of Physical Design at Agere.

"Our ability to complete verification quickly and to work with our partners and customers is a large benefit of the Calibre tool set over other similar tools on the market," said Greg Kleese, Director of Engineering at Agere.

There are clear benefits when designers adopt a comprehensive physical verification flow using the market leading Calibre tool suite, which includes Calibre nmDRC (design rule check), Calibre LVS (layout vs. schematic), and Calibre RVE (results viewing environment), all accessible through the Calibre Interactive invocation GUI (Graphical User Interface) A graphics-based user interface that incorporates movable windows, icons and a mouse. The ability to resize application windows and change style and size of fonts are the significant advantages of a GUI vs. a character-based interface. . Designers can cross probe results, debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  quickly and easily, and locate and fix errors in a succinct manner. In addition, with Calibre, the risk of unforeseen issues in manufacturing is greatly minimized because Calibre is the golden sign-off standard at the majority of all world-class foundries.

"The Calibre design-to-silicon platform is recognized for its technological superiority," said Anthony Nicoli, director of marketing for the Calibre physical verification, extraction and design-for-manufacturing (DFM DFM Design for Manufacturing (newsletter)
