Macworld EXPO, BOOTH No. 3558, AgentSheets, Inc., an innovator and provider of agent-based authoring environments for lifelong learning Lifelong learning is the concept that "It's never too soon or too late for learning", a philosophy that has taken root in a whole host of different organisations. Lifelong learning is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviors. , today announced the availability of its new software environment called AgentSheets with Ristretto. The interactive authoring environment is exclusive to Macintosh, and is the only end-user programmable tool of its kind available on any platform and creates superfast Java applets that run on all Java-enabled browsers and platforms without plug-ins.

"AgentSheets with Ristretto empowers discovery in a fun, easy-to-use interactive environment as non-technical users program custom simulations. It reduces users' learning curves dramatically in limitless applications from interactive mathworlds to sustainable ecoworlds or neighborhood planning In 1915, Robert E. Park and E. W. Burgess introduced the idea of "neighborhood" as an ecological concept with urban planning implications . Since then, many concepts and ideas of a neighborhood have emerged. ," says Alexander Repenning, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of AgentSheets, Inc. "Users see processes unfold in real time that would otherwise be very timely, costly or impossible to duplicate in real life."

AgentSheets' flexible and easy-to-use system is based on three integrated components: end-user programmable agents; spreadsheet-like workspaces; and Ristretto, the automatic Java code/applet generator. Users easily program agents to collect/report real-time information from Web pages and databases, play videos and MIDI MIDI

Programming is simplified by using the system's "IF... THEN" rule-based programming tool, Visual AgenTalk. The tool introduces a new tactile/visual programming approach that is based on interactive interfaces and visual representations so end-users from children to adults can effortlessly write, understand, and share programs.

The system's spreadsheet-like workspaces enable users to organize and manipulate agents in a grid called the "agentsheet." The agents then communicate with each other directly or via spatial relationships provided by the agentsheets. End-users can simply drag and drop A graphical user interface (GUI) capability that lets you perform operations by moving the icon of an object with the mouse into another window or onto another icon. For example, files can be copied or moved by dragging them from one folder to another.  any language components onto agents to test new conditions and experience the consequences of actions.

With Ristretto, end-users transform AgentSheets projects directly into Java applets at the push of a button without having to learn the Java programming language. Ristretto-generated Java applets can then be exported to the Web to create running interactive simulations in minutes. Entire simulations, individual agents, rules and new language primitives can be shared via the Internet by simply dragging them from a Web page into the AgentSheets environment. The Web-based AgentSheets Behavior Exchange allows users to freely share and exchange agents for interactive simulations and games. On September 6, 1999, AgentSheets was awarded a $400,000 Phase II grant by the National Science Foundation to commercialize the AgentSheets Behavior Exchange.

"Apple has always stood for education, innovation, and exploration," says Clent Richardson, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "With AgentSheets, students and educators alike can create Web-based interactive simulations based on Java applets without learning how to code."

AgentSheets with Ristretto is targeting educational applications specifically in the lifelong learning market. The lifelong learning market includes K-12, workplace training, and services. Students, teachers and professionals individually and collectively have already built AgentSheets simulations to model aspects of math, science, electricity, digital circuits, biology, social science, environmental design, chemistry, music and computer science.

Since the AgentSheets with Ristretto beta release See beta version.  was made available more than a year ago, thousands of end-users have already acquired the new authoring environment.

It has received several industry awards, including the "Gold Medal gold medal

PRICING, AVAILABILITY AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS To be used efficiently, all computer software needs certain hardware components or other software resources to be present on a computer system. These pre-requisites are known as (computer) system requirements and are often used as a guideline as opposed to an absolute rule.

AgentSheets with Ristretto is available for shipment in February 2000 and is priced starting at $190. However, the company is offering a special introductory price of $120 to Macworld EXPO attendees and $90 to educators. Quantity pricing, site licenses, and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  contracts are also available. Operating requirements include a Macintosh running Mac OS 7.5 and above. A minimum of 8 MB available RAM is required with 16 MB or more recommended for optimal performance. Users must also have a Web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  and at least 10 MB of available disk space to install and run AgentSheets with Ristretto.
