Agent orange error?

The article page 9 of the September/October 2005 issue of DAV Magazine on Agent Orange confirms that exposure to herbicides in Vietnam offered the strongest evidence to date that Agent Orange is associated with adult-onset (Type II) diabetes. However, the report said there was no link between herbicides such as Agent Orange and heart disease or cancer. The January 2001 issue of Diabetes Care reports that many people with diabetes may have a heart disorder called left ventricular diastolic ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD), despite being in good control. According to Canadian researchers, LVDD is an impairlnent in the relaxation phase of the heart's left ventricle, tile main pumping chamber. This can lead to increased pressure and fluids in the lungs or in vessels that return blood to the heart and may be the first sign of diabetes-related heart damage. In my opinion, if Agent Orange caused Type II diabetes, then a heart condition could be granted service-connection because the Type II diabetes aggravated or caused the heart condition. Is it possible that the U.S. Air Force Health study on effects of exposure to herbicides and the National Academy of Sciences made an unmistakable error? Roger D. Seick, Middletown, OH
