Financial Executives Work Together to Improve Communications and Best Practices for Addressing Money Laundering and Other Forms of Financial Fraud

LEESBURG, Va. -- Executives from Bank of America, American Express, SVB Financial Group, and other top banks and broker-dealers gathered today at Agent Logic's Financial Intelligence Roundtable to share insights and best practices to improve financial threat detection.

The 2007 National Money Laundering Strategy, released by a U.S. Government interagency working group in March, recognized that the Roundtable's participating institutions and their peers are the primary gateways to the U.S. financial system and face increased challenges identifying customers and their customers' sources of funds. Through presentations and panel sessions featuring senior financial intelligence executives, this unique event facilitated more focused information sharing under Section 314 of the U.S. PATRIOT Act of 2001.

Section 314 is the legal framework for financial institutions, under strict privacy and security controls, to share information and evidence regarding terrorist financing or money laundering activities with one another and with appropriate federal agencies.

William Fox, Senior Vice President and Global Anti-Money Laundering Executive at Bank of America, was a keynote speaker. "In recent years, the growth in Internet-based products, information, and technologies has created new openings for money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud," said Fox. "This has raised the bar for us in financial crimes prevention, and this Roundtable event is one way we are working together to meet these challenges."

Steve Lindsey, Head of Anti-Money Laundering at Silicon Valley Bank, moderated the event and commented, "Today's heightened risks and regulatory requirements call for robust, risk-based threat detection by each institution.
