 Public Facility Awards Program. Most impressive, however, is the fact that nationally, Boca Raton is the only city with three USTA Public Facility Award--winning all-public entities run by the same agency.

Since the program's beginning 24 years ago, USTA Facility Award winners in Boca Raton include Patch Reef Park (1988), Memorial Park (1992) and the Swim and Racquet Center of Boca Raton (2005).

Boca Raton Tennis Centers Administrator Jim Tierney Tierney is an Irish surname. It is an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó Tiarnaigh (male), Ní Tiarnaigh (female), also Tighearnaigh/Tighearnach. It is pronounced "tee + er + nee".

 when the Swim and Racquet Center of Boca Raton won the facility award in 2005. This is Tierney's third public facility to receive the national award, making USTA history.

"We are pleased with the dedication and support of facilities across the country in helping the USTA to promote and develop the growth of tennis."
