for the twenty-first century

Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner James F. Abromaitis announced today that the Connecticut Connecticut, state, United States
Connecticut (kənĕt`ĭkət), southernmost of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (N), Rhode Island (E), Long Island Sound (S), and New York (W).
 Tourism Council has selected a marketing, advertising and in-state public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most  team to spearhead marketing efforts for the state of Connecticut's Office of Tourism.

The $6 million contract for tourism services is from November 10, 2000 through July 31, 2002.

The appointment is unique, Abromaitis pointed out, because the team represents the agency model for the twenty-first century. Comprising a variety of companies and individual consultants from across Connecticut, the team is led by McLaughlin, DelVecchio & Casey (MD&C), a New Haven-based advertising agency; and includes Stanton-Crenshaw Communications, a marketing communications Marketing communications (or marcom) are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. Those who practice advertising, branding, direct marketing, graphic design, marketing, packaging, promotion, publicity, sponsorship, public relations, sales, sales  firm located in Stamford. The team is anchored by two experts with extensive experience and talent in the tourism field: Bill O'Neal, who led the award-winning 1993 tourism campaign -- Connecticut We're Full of Surprises -- and Donna Simpson Simp·son , Sir James Young 1811-1870.

The Connecticut Tourism Council, with members appointed by the Governor and legislative leaders, provides direction to the Office of Tourism to further tourism's contribution to economic development, and to promote targeted strategic investment in Connecticut's tourism products. The 14-member Council is made up of public and private sector representatives with strong expertise in a variety of disciplines from the travel and tourism industry.
