Institute Publishes Paper in Nature

Agencourt Bioscience Corporation, a provider of genomic services and nucleic acid purification products to the life sciences industry, today announced the publication of the human chromosome 10 manuscript in the May 27th issue of Nature. Agencourt scientists contributed to the BAC BAC

based sequencing effort on the genome sequence of human chromosome 10, the finished sequence of which comprises a total of 131,666,441 base pairs represented by 1,357 annotated genes.

Library construction and genome sequencing efforts began at Genome Therapeutics Corporation (now Oscient Pharmaceuticals) and were transferred to Agencourt Bioscience upon acquisition of the GenomeVision(TM) Services division. Agencourt continues to utilize this experience in the sequencing of additional genomes. In addition to Agencourt, the other major sequencing center was the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.

"The completion of one of the human chromosomes is a major accomplishment for both our team and the other contributors. We are pleased this completed sequence with analysis of chromosome 10 is available to be used by researchers worldwide," said Douglas Smith, Ph.D., Principal Investigator and Director of Grants and Contracts at Agencourt. "Agencourt is now applying the experience we gained in sequencing portions of the human and rat genomes towards the sequencing of genomes of biomedically important organisms as part of the NHGRI NHGRI National Human Genome Research Institute  Large-Scale Sequencing Research Network."
