Age of steam power.THE GOLDEN days of steam were rolled back for a road repair crew. Workmen are showing the power of a 1920s steamroller to seal potholes at Beamish. Foreman and museum director Richard Evans gave visitors to the openair venue a taste of yesteryear yes·ter·year n. 1. The year before the present year. 2. Time past; yore. yes as they repaired the carriageway carriageway Noun 1. Brit the part of a road along which traffic passes in one direction: the westbound carriageway of the M4 2. through the events field in costumes from the start of the last year. A 1920 eight-ton Fowler steam roller, nicknamed "Fiddler" and a 1930 stone crusher, made by Parkers of Leicester, helped with the task. The event, which is taking place all week, was part of the museum's Great North Steam Fair. As well as the historic road repairs, the fair features visiting locomotives at the museum's railway station and colliery. Vintage vehicles, traction engines, stationary engines and the colliery winding engine an engine employed in mining to draw up buckets from a deep pit; a hoisting engine.
