After reported sighting, no lion found

A report of a large animal resembling a lion being sighted off Huguenot Road in South Richmond this week has turned up no evidence of lions lurking in that area.

"I was kind of in disbelief because we've seen a lot of coyotes and bobcats and we see deer almost every day," Severson said. "But when we saw the massive size of the body, we both went into a 'let's get out of here' mode."

Severson, who has four children, said she still was planning to take them trick-or-treating tonight.

"I wouldn't suggest going out later, when there's not a lot of people around," she said.

Co-owner Marianne Fitzhugh said she and her husband had lynxes years ago but no longer. If someone sees a bobcat or other wild animal, they should stay away from it and call animal control, Fitzhugh added.
