It has been more than a year since Halie Lawrence, a 9-year-old Eugene girl, was diagnosed with Crohn's disease Crohn's disease: see colitis. , a painful digestive ailment ail·ment

"I hate needles and they have to take blood tests every day," she said. Plus, "You don't get to go outside."

So earlier this year, she decided she wanted to raise some money to help other kids facing the same struggle.

"I realized how hard it was, and I wanted to help other kids who had to go through it," Halie said.

With help from her mother, Coquette, and father, Randy, Halie raised nearly $200 over the weekend serving up cups of cold lemonade to thirsty people passing by her house in north Eugene on the way to a Tour of Homes.

Initially, Halie was going to give her earnings to the Doernbecher Children's Hospital Doernbecher Children's Hospital is a children's hospital located in Portland, Oregon, and associated with Oregon Health & Science University.

, she recently learned of Trevor Laurent, a 7-year-old Eugene boy with a similar condition, whose family was struggling to pay for his four-day hospital stay at Doernbecher's and other related medical bills. So Halie decided to give the money she raised directly to Trevor's family.

A few weeks ago Halie and her mother were at Dani's Coffee & Espresso in Santa Clara Santa Clara, city, Cuba

As soon as Halie and Coquette found out that Jacki worked at the Santa Clara Mr. Formal tuxedo shop, they rushed over to that store.

Coquette located Jacki and told her that Halie had some news she wanted to share with her. Halie, a feisty youngster with long, honey hair and blue eyes Blue eyes are eyes that have blue irises (see eye color), and may also refer to:

, told Jacki that she wanted to raise money for her son. Recalling that moment, Jacki said: "I about cried. I gave Halie a big hug."

Halie has enjoyed her stint of fundraising. Her parents said she uncharacteristically woke up at 6 a.m. Saturday, ready to start selling lemonade.

Halie said people have been really generous. The Santa Clara Albertsons donated about $50 worth of lemonade mix and ice, she said.

"One lady gave $20, and she didn't even have any lemonade," Halie said.

On Sunday, Trevor and his family stopped by Halie's lemonade stand to say hello. Coquette turned to Jacki and said: "It's kind of nice to know where (the money) is going."

Jacki laughed and replied: "It's nice to know where it came from."
