African blocs simplify rules of origin.

Aiming to boost intra-continental trade, three of Africa's leading regional trade blocs - the East African Community The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organisation with plans to form a country called East African Federation [1] with one President by 2010[2] ruling over what were countries of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.  (EAC EAC an abbreviation used in studies of complement, in which E represents erythrocyte, A antibody, and C complement. ), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, is a preferential trading area with twenty member states stretching from Libya to Zimbabwe. COMESA formed in December 1994, replacing a Preferential Trade Area which had existed since 1981.  (COMESA COMESA Common Market for Eastern & Southern Africa ) and the Southern African Development Community The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an inter-governmental organization. It furthers socio-economic cooperation and integration as well as political and security cooperation among 15 southern African countries. It complements the role of the African Union.  (SADC) - have simplified the rules of origin to be applied by member states.

The move will greatly simplify and speed up trade between member countries. "The rules of origin are now much simpler and will facilitate trade once the three regional economic trading blocs establish a free trade area," reports EAC director-general in charge of customs and trade, Peter Kiguta.

Rules of origin refer to the criteria used to distinguish between goods produced within the member states and which are eligible for the trading bloc's preferential treatment, and those produced outside the region's customs territory that attract duties. "The rules of origin of the individual economic blocs will be abolished when the hybrid one comes into force. It is better and simpler," says Kiguta.
