The recent success of African apparel factories exhibiting at the ASAP Global Sourcing Show -- held at the Las Vegas Hilton The Las Vegas Hilton is a hotel, casino, and convention center in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is a joint venture between Colony Capital, which owns 60 percent, and New York City-based REIT Whitehall Street Real Estate Funds, which owns the remaining 40 percent.  Convention Center -- is again prompting a strong interest from both buyers and participants coming to the next show Feb. 22-25.

A substantial African pavilion will be represented at ASAP, reinforcing the importance of the ASAP Show to attending exhibitors and buyers who will evaluate the broad capabilities of participating factories.

Both South Africa South Africa, Afrikaans Suid-Afrika, officially Republic of South Africa, republic (2005 est. pop. 44,344,000), 471,442 sq mi (1,221,037 sq km), S Africa.  and Mauritius have confirmed that they will form national pavilions to exhibit at ASAP. "Millions of dollars worth of business were conducted as a result of African companies participating," said Maureen Storch, Director of Global Operations Global Operations is a first-person shooter computer game developed by Barking Dog Studios and published by both Crave Entertainment and Electronic Arts. It was released in March of 2002, following its public multiplayer beta version which contained only the Quebec map.  for ASAP. "U.S. buyers, who may have thought the African factories didn't have the infrastructure or technology to compete, were quite impressed with what they discovered. And, because no duty or quota is imposed, doing business there can be a very profitable element of a retailer's overall sourcing strategy."

Sunny Ridge of California benefited from the show and its focused format. The U.S. manufacturer of casual sportswear met the South African factory, Clothing Zone, at ASAP. By the end of the show, the parties had agreed to do business; Sunny Ridge ultimately went to visit Clothing Zone and placed a first order for 10,000 dozen men's and kid's T-shirts as well as women's tops.

The ASAP Global Sourcing Show will take place Feb. 22-25 at the Las Vegas Hilton, with about 250 factories from over 40 countries represented.
