African Copper Plc: Flotation Results Support Change of Scope for Dukwe Project.

LONDON -- African Copper Plc (TSX:ACU)(AIM:ACU)(BSE:African Copper) -

- Bench Scale flotation results have demonstrated the amenability of oxide, supergene and sulphide ore to recovery within a standard flotation concentrator

- Sulphide recoveries between 88% and 93% have been achieved to produce a concentrate containing between 27% and 30% copper

- Supergene recoveries exceed those expected from heap leach - 80% recovery indicated from supergene zones producing a concentrate with 27% copper

- Milling characteristics show average work indices - standard crusher/ball mill configurations are suitable for grinding

- Recoveries are obtained at a coarse grind (150 micron) - fine grinding is not necessary

- Locked cycle tests to commence shortly.

African Copper announces the receipt of the initial metallurgical results from the first phase of testing on material from the Dukwe Project in northeastern Botswana. These tests were completed at SGS Lakefield Labs in Johannesburg and supervised by Senet CC, both independent of African Copper. These latest tests were designed to check the amenability of copper recovery to standard flotation techniques. On the basis of these results, African Copper has decided to continue investigating the viability of using a flotation concentrator at the project.

Capital and operating costs for the underground mine/concentrator option are expected to be available before the end of 2005 at which time the Board will be presented with a consolidated development plan for the Dukwe project. Engineering of the open-pit heap-leach SX-EW option is already complete. African Copper intends to commence construction at Dukwe in early 2006. Permitting has commenced for the project, construction of the access road will commence shortly, and the Company has secured secondary and tertiary crushers for the project.

David Jones, CEO of African Copper, commented, "These results are encouraging since it appears that the supergene ore can produce more copper with faster recoveries using a flotation concentrator as compared to heap leach. The treatment of supergene material through a concentrator would have the dual impacts of accelerating cashflow and reducing the working capital requirement, both of which will contribute to a faster payback and a higher IRR for Dukwe."

African Copper is a tri-listed (AIM, TSX, Botswana Stock Exchange) international exploration and mining company. Six drills are currently on-site completing a sulphide delineation programme. A Bankable Feasibility Study on the open-pit portion of the deposit has been completed, with engineering progressing on an underground mine and concentrator. African Copper expects to commence construction of the Dukwe Project in early 2006. The Company's other interests are the 4,000 sq km Matsitama exploration concession adjacent to Dukwe, which contains two known copper deposits and numerous base metal exploration targets.
