Inspired initially in 1994, after hearing a lecture by David B. Morris (author of The Culture of Pain), King (English, U. of Florida) began her exploration of issues around black bodies in pain, carrying it forward over the years and gaining impetus Impetus is a stimulus or impulse, a moving force that sparks momentum.
