Africa launch of the Digital Diaspora initiative.


In January 2002 in New York, the United Nations Development Fund for Women The United Nations Development Fund for Women, commonly known as UNIFEM, provides financial and technical assistance to innovative programmes and strategies that promote women’s human rights, political participation and economic security.  launched its Digital Diaspora initiative to build strategic partnerships between African Information Technology entrepreneurs in the diaspora and women's organisations and business associations in Africa. The initiative is aimed of harnessing the financial resources, IT and business expertise of Africans in the diaspora to tackle the challenges of feminised poverty. It seeks to undertake projects that empower women economically through capacity building in the use of information communication technologies, identifying business opportunities, creating business partnerships, and providing access to finance as well as building the knowledge base on ICTs for poverty alleviation. The initiative is guided by a Global Advisory Committee comprised of African ICT entrepreneurs from the Diaspora, ICT experts and representatives of the private sector and the United Nations system. A comprehensive programme to address the gender digital divide in Africa has been prepared with advise from the GAC and will form the framework for action under the initiative. Partnership with the UN ICT Task Force, Digital Partners and Gruppo Cerfe has been forged in the June 2002 launch of a complementary initiative, the Digital Diaspora Network Africa (DDNA DDNA Developmental Disabilities Nurses Association

Lancement de l'initiative africaine de la diaspora digitale

En janvier 2002 e New York, le Fonds de Developpement des Nations-Unies pour les femmes a lance son initiative de diaspora digitale pour batir des partenariats strategiques entre des entrepreneurs de la diaspora, les organisations feminines et les associations commerciales d'Afrique. L'initiative vise a exploiter les ressources financieres, les technologies de l'Information et l'expertise commerciale des africains de la diaapora pour traiter des defis poses par la feminisation Noun 1. feminisation - the process of becoming feminized; the development of female characteristics (loss of facial hair or breast enlargement) in a male because of hormonal disorders or castration

Elle se propose aussi d'entreprendre des projets visant a l'habilitation economique des femmes au moyen du renforcement de capacites en ce qui concerne l'utilisation des TIC, l'identification des occasions commerciales, la creation des partenariats d'affaires, l'acces aux finances ainsi que la creation de connaissances de base en matiere de TIC en vue de l'allegement de la pauvrete. L'initiative est guidee par un Comite Consultatif Global qui comprend les entrepreneurs africains des TIC de la diaspora, les experts et les representants des TIC du secteur prive et du systeme da I'ONU. Un programme complet traitant du fosse numerique de genre en Afrique a ete prepare par un avis du GAC et formera une structure d'action dans le cadre de la meme initiative.
