Africa, BAM style.DanceAfrica, under the direction of founding elder Baba Chuck Davis, is back for a 28th season at Brooklyn Academy of Music Brooklyn Academy of Music, performing arts center located in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y. and popularly known as BAM. Founded in 1859 and opened in 1861, it is the oldest such institution still in operation in the United States. It moved to its neo-Italianate building in downtown Brooklyn in 1907. The Academy presently has four major performance areas–the Opera House, the Playhouse, the Leperq space, and the BAM Rose Cinemas., May 27-30. This time around the theme is "Rhythmic Heritage: Going Full Circle," and true to his word, Baba Chuck is presenting slices of the African Diaspora Diaspora (dīăs`pərə) [Gr.,=dispersion], term used today to denote the Jewish communities living outside the Holy Land. It was originally used to designate the dispersal of the Jews at the time of the destruction of the first Temple (586 B.C.) and the forced exile [Heb.,=Galut] to Babylonia (see Babylonian captivity).. The Ivory Coast Ivory Coast: see Côte d'Ivoire.'s Mamadou Dahoue and the Ancestral Messengers Dance Company will show Zaouly, a woman's dance, and Coucouba, a dance that brings elders and youth together, plus traditional mask dances. Other groups include Jamaica's L'Acadco and New York's Asase Yaa Yaa - Yet Another Assembler - Macro assembler for GCOS 8 and Mark III on Bull DPS-8 machines.
