Originally published in 2003, his guide describes some 200 hikes accessible by a drive of one hour or less from Portland, Oregon, ranging in difficulty from simple strolls through urban preserves to rugged climbs in the Coast Range, in the Columbia Gorge, and on Mt. Hood. All hikes from the first edition have been updated, ten undergoing major revisions due to relocated trailheads and/or completely rerouted trails. The book's organizational format and numbering system have been streamlined, and every map updated and significantly improved to be more user friendly, with the addition of many more landmarks and details to help visitors follow the trail.
