The increasing cost of health care has encouraged health insurance companies to become more creative in developing and promoting advanced benefit plans and financial options. These innovations can enhance your ability to secure more affordable health care coverage.

First, recognize that new administration options by insurance carriers are intended to increase access and eligibility for small businesses applying for health care coverage. As an example, Blue Cross of California recently expanded eligibility guidelines guidelines,

to include part-time employees who work at least 15 hours per week. Prior to this new option, minimal hours required for eligibility were 20 hours per week. So, if you are a small business employer with part-time employees, you can still offer health coverage.

Second, more affordable and employer-friendly plans are emerging for small business owners seeking additional ways to maintain their coverage in light of increasing costs. Figure out what dollar contribution you would be willing to fund per employee and talk to your agent or broker. You may be surprised to find that the amount you are willing to spend can allow you to provide a plan that will match your needs. In fact Blue, Blue Cross just introduced a number of more affordable plans. One new PPO PPO
