A mental health caseworker found Meadows' body inside her J Street apartment Jan. 8.

The caseworker was worried because Meadows had not returned several calls.

Investigators believe the 54-year-old woman had been dead between three and six days.

Meadows' death was the second of three homicides in Lane County since the start of the year. Details about the case were contained in a search warrant affidavit affidavit

According to the affidavit, Meadows appeared to have been beaten in the face and head with a rock as she sat in a reclining chair in her living room. Police found the rock resting on her shoulder.

Police also found blood in the bathroom sink, indicating that the person responsible for the slaying had tried to wash up after the assault.

According to the girlfriend's version of events, Carl Meadows came to her apartment Jan. 4 and said he had hit Tricia Meadows in the head at least three times with a rock and that he thought she was dead. The girlfriend said she thought Carl Meadows believed the woman was responsible for getting the girlfriend fired, the affidavit says.

Detectives seized the clothing Carl Meadows wore the day of the slaying, as well as the bicycle he rode that day. They also took DNA DNA: see nucleic acid.
