Aetna pays California providers for performance, IT adoption.


Aetna Aetna, volcano: see Etna, Italy.  has paid out $2 million to 54 California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  IPAs--its first reimbursements under a new pay-for-performance program instituted last year. Representing 107 medical groups, the IPAs were paid for their 2003 performance, and many are eligible for similar payments for 2004 performance. Under the initiative, led by California's Integrated Healthcare Association, medical groups can receive bonus checks up to 3.5 percent of their annual capitation CAPITATION. A poll tax; an imposition which is yearly laid on each person according to his estate and ability.
