Aetna Earns #9 Ranking in Barron's 500.

) announced today that it has been ranked ninth in Barron's annual ranking of the top 500 companies in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and Canada. Barron's, one of the nation's leading financial news publications, mentioned Aetna's "noteworthy improvements" in moving up from its #116 ranking in last year's survey.

The methodology used by Barron's to grade and rank the top 500 companies comprises four equally-weighted measures. For each company, Barron's rates stock price performance relative to the Standard & Poor's 500 Index for the 52 weeks ended April 27; the median cash-flow return on investment for the past three years and in the current fiscal year compared to the three-year median; and sales growth in the latest fiscal year, adjusted for acquisitions and divestures. The companies are then awarded a "grade-point average" for each metric, which resulted in Aetna's ranking. The top company in this year's survey was investment bank Goldman Sachs The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., or simply Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) is one of the world's largest global investment banks. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869, and is headquartered in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City at 85 Broad Street. .
