Under this planned arrangement, Aetna and ESIS will work together to provide single intake, case management, return-to-work programs and reporting that draw on its extensive experience and clinical approach to managing disabilities and ESIS's expertise in case management of workers' compensation claims.

"When our customers have employees who are out on workers' compensation, it may require a different type of absence management from other types of disabilities. This alliance will enhance our ability to address those needs and offer a more effective clinical management and return-to-work strategy for the employee," said Peg Haennicke, Head of Aetna Disability and Absence Management Services.

"ESIS and Aetna complement each other in addressing absence related to workers' compensation. We are both focused on identifying health issues early on, accelerating claim activities and providing return-to-work programs to members," said David Patterson David Patterson could refer to:

, President of ESIS. "This alliance will enable us to show the value each of us brings to managing absence related to workers' compensation. We will be able to create new opportunities for each other with human resource and benefit managers and in new geographic markets."

By collaborating on case management, Aetna and ESIS may be able to help employers reduce the amount of time it takes their employees to return to health and return to work.

"We expect that using an integrated approach involving single intake for both disability and workers' compensation can shorten employees' disability durations and enable better return-to-work results," said Haennicke.

The alliance also allows Aetna and ESIS the flexibility to provide reports to customers that track occupational and non-occupational absences using Aetna's WorkAbility[R] system and ESIS's Global Risk Advantage system.
