Aethlon CEO Discusses Project BioShield Legislation and Treatment Strategies for Biological Weapons.

SAN DIEGO -- Aethlon Medical, Inc. (OTCBB:AEMD) announced that its Chairman and CEO, James A. Joyce, participated yesterday as a member of the Project BioShield panel at the Federal Biodefense Research Conference in Washington, DC. In this capacity, Mr. Joyce discussed issues pertaining to Project BioShield legislation, and disclosed that the definition of countermeasure against biological weapons would be expanded to include medical devices in new legislation. The language had previously limited the scope of therapeutic countermeasures to be solely inclusive of drugs and vaccines.

"As the developer of a device targeted to treat pandemic viral conditions, including pathogens most likely to be weaponized for bioterror attacks, the expansion of the countermeasure language opens the door for our technology to be considered in future stockpiling procurements by the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS)," stated Mr. Joyce

In addition to Mr. Joyce, the five-member panel was comprised of senior executives from the Food And Drug Administration (FDA), DHHS, and management from two organizations recently awarded contracts under Project BioShield for the federal government to purchase and stockpile approximately $1.8 billion in anthrax vaccines.

During a formal presentation, Mr. Joyce discussed the potential capabilities of the Aethlon Hemopurifier(TM) to be a first line of defense in treating drug and vaccine resistant bioweapons, including those genetically modified for increased virulence. Mr. Joyce also emphasized the importance of deploying post-exposure treatment strategies for individuals exposed to biological weapons that have not yet been identified.
