Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:AETH), a leading provider of wireless data products and services, today announced a partnership with Symbian, the leading software platform provider for Wireless Information Devices (WIDs), to develop wireless connectivity technologies for next generation mobile phones.

As a member of the Symbian Connectivity Partner Program, Aether will work with Symbian to ensure availability and interoperability The capability of two or more hardware devices or two or more software routines to work harmoniously together. For example, in an Ethernet network, display adapters, hubs, switches and routers from different vendors must conform to the Ethernet standard and interoperate with each other.  of applications, services and networks for wireless information devices - such as Smartphones, mobile phones with personal digital assistant capabilities, and other next generation mobile phones.

Under the agreement, Aether and Symbian will develop and market mobile and wireless connectivity technologies that will utilize Symbian-based devices on a worldwide basis. Also, Aether will gain access to Symbian's platform releases and upgrades prior to market launch. Aether's ability to structure and adopt its products and services to perform optimally over platforms that support Smartphones will expand its capacity to reach a global market.
