Aestiva Challenges Old-School Web Development.

Business Editors

TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2000

In the not-too-distant-future, Web designers may likely be asking themselves, "What were we thinking?" Web-based products like Aestiva are challenging the nature of tool-based development using Perl/CGI programming or ASP. Could these old methods come to be viewed as hopelessly archaic? Aestiva thinks so.

Aestiva has launched the first operating system operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.
made for the World Wide Web and is betting its technology will replace the tedious, over-complex and old-fashioned manner in which advanced Web sites are now constructed.

Unlike tool-based development where, for instance, a shopping site might take thousands of lines of coding, the same application can be developed in about 50 lines using Aestiva -- by a typical Web designer with no need to understand advanced programming internals. This is great news for developers who until now, have had no choice but to create Web sites by combining multiple products together (i.e. tool-based programming).

The Web came about so quickly that no new methodologies had time to be introduced, and a development environment was hastily hast·y

2. Done or made too quickly to be accurate or wise; rash: a hasty decision.
patched together using established pre-Web tools. Unlike these "legacy" methods, Aestiva is one of the few companies that specializes in Webputing; the art of computing computing - computer  from a Web perspective, answering the unique needs of the Web environment.

A world leader in Webputing, Aestiva is building a following across the Web. Its OS can be installed at most hosting providers in the country.

"Our growth has been phenomenal," says Aestiva's CFO See Chief Financial Officer. , Matthew Heller. "Finally Web-developers don't have to pull their hair out to have a dynamic, database-driven Web site." Heller adds, "We're here to say that advanced Web sites don't have to be that complicated to build. They're for anyone who can master HTML HTML

documents and a bit of programming. Forget the rest."

Aestiva HTML/OS is available for Sun, SGI-IRIX, BSDI BSDI - Berkeley Software Design, Inc. , FreeBSD, Linux, Cobalt RaQ The Cobalt RaQ is a 1U rackmount server product line developed by Cobalt Networks, Inc.
