Aesop's Fables.

What a treat is this illustrated version of Aesop's timeless morality tales. This newly designed edition of a book that has been out of print for more than two decades includes five fables, for a total of twenty-three that were not included in the 1970 Simon and Schuster publication. Jacob Lawrence, a respected art educator as well as a celebrated African American artist, uses a bold and expressive pen and brush ink line within his characteristically dynamic compositional style to complement Aesop's text. This slim volume should be of interest to all ages for both the words and images. Creative art teachers from lower elementary grades through secondary school will be able to find numerous ways to make learning connections between story illustration, ink drawings, original animal and bird representations, and good graphic design.
