AerovectRx Device Among Leading U.S. Tech Transfer Technologies.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- AerovectRx Corporation, developer of new disposable unit dosage nebulizer drug delivery technology jointly created at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and at Creare Inc., has been recognized for excellence by the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) for Technology Transfer at the annual FLC meeting today in Arlington, TX. This innovative technology was exclusively licensed to AerovectRx Corporation where it is undergoing commercial development having already received a 510K clearance for one of its product applications from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

"We are very pleased that the potential of this technology and the people who worked so hard to develop it are being recognized," said Matthew H.J. Kim, J.D., founder and CEO of AerovectRx, CDC's first "spin-off" technology company. "We believe that this technology will serve as a platform for preventing disease as well as treating different diseases and ailments - improving healthcare on a worldwide scale."

The FLC awards are a prestigious honor in the technology transfer world, with numerous federal laboratories across all disciplines submitting nominations each year. These awards have become a source of great pride for both the laboratories and their government agencies. The CDC/AerovectRx technology was selected for the Awards for Excellence in Technology Transfer category, presented to FLC member laboratories and their partners for successfully transferring federally developed technologies.

"This prestigious award recognizes you, your team and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for your collaborative vision in the technology transfer process, as well as for a united spirit of cooperation that brought your vision to reality," said Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to AerovectRx. "I share your pride in this award and wish you many more years of great success."

The AerovectRx nebulizer technology, licensed from the CDC, delivers novel therapies and vaccines in an easy to breathe mist. The technology employs a disposable vibrating mesh that can be integrated as part of either a consumable user-filled or pre-filled medication cartridge, which is designed to improve compliance, facilitate improved dosage control and provide efficient aerosolization while minimizing risks of re-infection.

Pulmonary, or inhaled, drug delivery offers a significant improvement in the administration of certain drugs, and in some instances, provides new therapeutic options for the treatment of disease. Inhaled drugs are rapidly and painlessly delivered to the lung for treatment of local, respiratory diseases, or to the bloodstream for treatment of systemic diseases for quicker onset and fewer potential side effects than other traditional forms of drug delivery. The annual market for inhaled drug delivery is estimated at $20 billion.
