Sean E. Talaee, 47, a former controller for a Covina aerospace subcontractor, pleaded no contest on May 6 in connection with an embezzlement embezzlement, wrongful use, for one's own selfish ends, of the property of another when that property has been legally entrusted to one. Such an act was not larceny at common law because larceny was committed only when property was acquired by a "felonious taking," i.  scheme. According to court documents, during 1998 and 1999 Talaee transferred $525,000 from the company line of credit for his own business purposes. Talaee then failed to report the embezzled em·bez·zle

In addition to the prison sentence, Talaee was ordered to pay the FTB restitution of $101,225, which includes tax, penalties, interest, and the cost of the investigation. Talaee has already paid full restitution to his former employer.

The underreporting of income is a major component of the $6.5 billion tax gap now facing California. The tax gap is the difference in the tax that is owed and the tax that is collected.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy-Powell handed down the sentence in Department 109 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center The Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center (formerly known as the Criminal Courts Building) is the county courthouse in downtown Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Turkat prosecuted the case. This was a joint investigation between the FTB, the Covina Police Department, and Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
