Aerosonic Receives Federal Aviation Administration Approval on New Digital Altimeter; New Technology Provides Platform for Growth and Additional Products.

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Aerosonic Corporation (AMEX:AIM), a leading supplier of precision flight products for commercial, business and military aircraft, today announced that the company has received Technical Standard Order (TSO TSO - Telecommunications Service Order

) approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for their new digital altimeter altimeter (ăltĭm`ĭtər, ăl`tĭmē'tər), device for measuring altitude. The most common type is an aneroid barometer calibrated to show the drop in atmospheric pressure in terms of linear elevation as an airplane, balloon, or mountain climber rises.. This altimeter was selected by Cessna Aircraft Company as standard equipment on their new Citation Mustang Jet.

The technology designed into this instrument provides customers with improved accuracy and reliability, utilizing digital technology instead of traditional mechanical devices. This instrument requires significantly reduced production lead time, resulting in even greater customer satisfaction. With the sales potential covering all aspects of aviation, this digital altimeter represents a strong addition to the existing line, while opening a new path for additional advanced, digitally based products.

The TSO process is the FAA's method for approving materials, parts, processes and appliances used on civil aircraft. The Aerospace Research Center reports that the civil aircraft market, which includes all aircraft except those used by the military, accounts for 21.5%, or $34.6 billion, of total aerospace sales. The TSO approval now makes this product available immediately to all aspects of this marketplace. The instrument passed a series of intensive tests in the process of obtaining the coveted approval, which stands as a true testament to the company's commitment to product excellence.

"This is a bold new time and market for Aerosonic products," stated Mark Perkins, Executive Vice President. We have worked hard through this process and are very excited about the opportunities this digital altimeter brings to our industry and to the future of our company. The knowledge gained in developing this sensor-based technology provides the platform for growth through the addition of more sophisticated products applicable to a greater range of aircraft."

Aerosonic Corporation has manufactured aircraft instruments for military and commercial aircraft for over 50 years.
