Aer Lingus cuts winter schedule; TRAVEL.AER Lingus Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. Based in Dublin, it operates 41 Airbus aircraft serving Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East. The airline is 28% owned by the Irish government; it was floated on the Dublin and London Stock Exchanges on 2 October 2006, is cutting flights out of Belfast and Dublin this winter after a fall in passenger numbers. But the jobs of 100 pilots and cabin staff employed in Belfast have been guaranteed. The airline will only be using two aircraft out of the International Airport for four months between November and March. They will fly to London Heathrow, Malaga, Munich, Lanzarote and Tenerife. Routes dropped for the winter include Paris, Rome, Milan, Faro Faro, town, Portugal Faro (fä`rō), town (1991 pop. 31,966), capital of Faro dist. and of Algarve, S Portugal. The southernmost town in Portugal, it is a seaport from which fish, fruit (especially dried figs), wine, and cork are and Barcelona. Commercial director Enda Corneille said: "At a time when customer confidence is at an all-time low and you have finite resources, you have to deploy them where they will generate most return." |
