Aer Lingus becomes first European airline to go "Smoke-Free" on transatlantic routes.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 1995--From March 26, 1995 Aer Lingus Aer Lingus is Ireland's national airline. Based in Dublin, it operates 41 Airbus aircraft serving Europe, Africa, North America and the Middle East. The airline is 28% owned by the Irish government; it was floated on the Dublin and London Stock Exchanges on 2 October 2006,  will extend its inflight no-smoking policy to its transatlantic routes.

The Irish airline has operated its commuter and domestic Irish routes as non-smoking for over six years. In March 1993, this policy was extended to Aer Lingus jet routes between Ireland and Britain and, in January of 1994, all flights to and from continental Europe Continental Europe, also referred to as mainland Europe or simply the Continent, is the continent of Europe, explicitly excluding European islands and, at times, peninsulas.  operated with a smoke-free environment. The extension of this policy to its transatlantic flights | Transatlantic flight is any flight of an aircraft, whether fixed-wing aircraft, balloon or other device, which involves crossing the Atlantic Ocean — with a starting point in North America or South America and ending in Europe or Africa, or vice versa.  will make Aer Lingus a totally non-smoking airline and, it is believed, the first major European European

An airline spokesman said: "Customer satisfaction is a high priority with Aer Lingus and in response to passengers' wishes we're providing them a totally smoke-free environment on every flight. This step is being taken after we conducted intensive customer research late last year on all our transatlantic routes. A large majority of our customers expressed a strong wish to travel in a smoke-free environment." Aer Lingus operates 52 flights each week to Ireland from its Boston and New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 gateways.
