Aelita ERDisk Improves Flexibility and Control of Emergency Repair Disk Creation.

COLUMBUS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 28, 1999--

Emergency Protection and Recovery Tool Enhances Backup and

Recovery for Multi-domain Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  and 2000 Networks

Aelita Software announced today a new release of ERDisk, its best-selling best·sell·er also best seller

intelligent emergency protection and recovery tool for Windows NT and 2000 networks. ERDisk provides automated, remote emergency repair disk A specially formated non-bootable floppy disk made by the Recovery Console in newer Windows versions that contains information about your basic system configuration. This disk is designed to be used with an NTFS file system, and can be used to restore your computer to a bootable state if  creation and fast, intelligent recovery from problems resulting from changes in systems and network configuration.

ERDisk 4.0 represents a major upgrade of Aelita's ERDisk, featuring increased scalability and performance, full support for Windows 2000, an expanded range of recovery options, and a new Emergency Repair Console.

ERDisk 4.0 creates and updates emergency repair disks for multiple Windows servers See Windows Server 2003, Windows Home Server, Windows 2000 and Windows NT.  and workstations simultaneously, and easily scales to serve additional systems. The Computer Collection feature allows servers and workstations to be grouped by type, location or other criteria, making it easy to organize thousands of computers into groups with different ERD creation and scheduling settings.

Unlike the rdisk command in Windows NT, ERDisk allows a complete set of emergency repair disks for a multi-domain network to be built and maintained from a central location. It also permits the emergency repair disk to be stored on a secure hard drive or written to CD-R (CD-Recordable) A writable CD technology using a type of compact disc that can be recorded, but not erased (CD-Rs are "write once" discs). CD-R discs are used to master CD-ROMs, to back up data and to make copies of data for distribution. , rather than on a single floppy disk, which limits emergency repair disk capacity to 1.44MB.

ERDisk 4.0 does not use the Windows NT Native Repair Disk utility, which is not available in Windows 2000, so it is equally valuable for Windows NT networks, Windows 2000 networks, and networks migrating from Windows NT to Windows 2000.

"Keeping a current emergency repair disk is an important part of any network backup plan," Ratmir Timashev, president of Aelita Software said. "It will become even more important as administrators begin the process of migrating to Windows 2000."

The Emergency Repair Console on ERDisk 4.0 permits the recovery of a computer with corrupted registry or system files on both Windows NT and 2000 systems. Where Windows NT restricts the range of actions that can be performed during repair, the Emergency Repair Console's command-line interface provides full access to all volumes mounted during boot up.

ERDisk 4.0 also provides the following enhanced features and capabilities:

Remote Restore

ERDisk 4.0 provides safe, quick and granular granular /gran·u·lar/ (gran´u-lar) made up of or marked by presence of granules or grains.

gran·u·lar

The swelling is caused by distention of the skin capillaries and escape of serum and white cells into the skin and tissues.  on remote computers over LAN/WAN LAN/WAN Local Area Network/Wide Area Network  connection.

Increased Control of Creation and Restore

ERDisk permits an entire registry to be backed up to multiple floppies or a CD-R disk. Using ERDisk administrators can restore a failed Windows NT 4.0 installation on an NTFS (NT File System) An optional file system for Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems. NTFS is the more advanced file system, compared to FAT32. It improves performance and is required in order to implement numerous security and administrative features in the OS.  partition with full access to the drive and a complete set of repair info files on a CD or multiple floppies.

Improved Scheduling

ERDisk's Schedule Wizard allows emergency repair disks to be created automatically at specified times.

Explorer-Like Interface

The new ERDisk interface provides for easy access to readiness statistics and drag-and-drop creation of Computer Collections through an Explorer-like interface.

Complete Repair Inventory

ERDisk 4.0 maintains a comprehensive internal logging database, including a complete, easily accessible repository of all information on ERDisk activities.

"It is much easier to recover from problems caused by configuration changes using emergency repair disk, rather than the full network backup," said Andrei Baronov, Aelita's Chief Technology Officer. "ERDisk's automated, full-featured emergency protection and recovery should be part of the backup strategy for every Windows network A local area network (LAN) made up of Windows clients and servers. Starting with Windows for Workgroups 3.1 in 1992, all versions of Windows have built-in networking. See Windows and NetBEUI network. ."
