Aegis Semiconductor Secures $8 Million in Series D Financing.

WOBURN, Mass. -- Aegis Semiconductor, a leader in cost-effective optical channel monitors for fiber-optic communication networks, today announced the closing of $8 million in Series D financing, bringing the company's total investment to more than $30 million.

The round of financing was completed with participation from existing investors including Vesbridge Partners, Alta Partners, Technology Venture Partners and Megunticook Management. The capital investment will be used to expand capacity in response to growing customer demand for DWDM (Dense WDM) The term given to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) when significantly more channels were being added. Since WDM is increasingly more "dense" all the time, both terms are used synonymously. See WDM.

"Aegis has experienced solid revenue growth and has established a clear leadership position in the monitoring market," said Raj Alur, managing director at Vesbridge Partners. "This management team has demonstrated its strong ability to execute and we look forward to the next phase of the company's growth."

The demand for Aegis' low-cost channel monitor technology has accelerated dramatically, fueled by carriers' deployments of Re-configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer Not to be confused with add-drop multiplexer.
An optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) is a device used in wavelength-division multiplexing systems for multiplexing and routing different channels of light into or out of a single mode fiber (SMF).
