The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department established the Terrorism Early Warning Group in 1996 as an interdisciplinary group in which local, state, and federal agencies work together to share information, combine resources, and enhance law enforcement's ability to identify and respond to acts and threats of terrorism. The DHS intends to develop a national emergency communication plan to establish national standards for technology acquisition and require all state and local programs to purchase emergency communications equipment funded through federal grants to demonstrate progress in achieving interoperability with other emergency response agencies.

Aegis Assessments is applying for $50 million in funding from the Department of Homeland Security to install and test the Aegis SafetyNet(TM) system with approximately 100 public safety agencies in California. The company has received strong local political support for this initiative.

"To support our regional initiative in California, we prepared an in-depth report on the status of interoperability for first responders. After nearly a year of research and development, we believe we have provided invaluable information to federal decision-makers that will enhance their ability to establish national emergency communications standards," said Richard Reincke, chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

About Aegis Assessments Inc.

The company was founded in January 2001 to provide vulnerability assessments and emergency communications systems to schools and government facilities. Its goal was to improve public safety emergency communications and allow seamless communication between police, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel responding to an emergency at a school or other government facility.

Unfortunately, prior to Sept. 11, 2001, there were limited funds available in school budgets for emergency communications systems. As the company developed its system, it became apparent that there were significant law enforcement, military and commercial security applications for this system. The company's focus is now on developing these applications.

The SafetyNet(TM) is a mobile wireless communication solution and information-sharing platform for emergency responders that functions as a collaborative hub providing high-speed video and data communication in any type of emergency.
