There was depth, understanding of the gay community, and compassion. I thought, Why not Brooke Shields? I sent copies to [co-executive producers] Barbra Streisand, Cis Corman, and Whoopi Goldberg; to the people at Lifetime; the people at Columbia TriStar. It became a passion to get Brooke cast in this movie."
