WHAT: Web site lists contractors who have met business-standard
criteria to ensure they are reputable and have a proven
track record of honesty.
The site also includes a section where people who can
volunteer services such as temporary housing, financial
assistance and pet care, among other things. Although
www.HelpRebuildSanDiego.org just went live yesterday,
within hours it had more than 200 contractors sign up to
provide their services and thousands of visitors to the
site.
The site is neatly organized around four main areas:
Contractors offering services, volunteers offering their
assistance, a section for individuals and families who've
been affected by the devastating fires and a
comprehensive community information resource center.

WHY: Site was created to help prevent those who lost homes from
being victimized a second time by unscrupulous or
fraudulent contractors and to provide citizens of San
Diego County with a helpful online resource for getting
their lives back to normal.
WHO: www.HelpRebuildSanDiego.org was created by Steve Hundley,
a longtime San Diego County resident and businessman whose
newly-built Poway home was literally encircled -- but
ultimately spared -- by the catastrophic wildfire.
"With the increased demand for construction talent,
finding assistance quickly will be difficult," Hundley
said. "The purpose of www.HelpRebuildSanDiego.org is to
give those in need an easy-to-use resource to locate
assistance that can help them get their lives together as
quickly and effortlessly as possible."
