Advisor stresses on training in disaster management.

KARACHI, November 04, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Advisor to Chief Minister, Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh, has underlined the imperative need for disaster management training in Pakistan in view of prevailing situation. The present day conditions warrant that such a training should be held at every level, he said while addressing a 3-day district risk management training workshop held with the coordination of Municipal Training and Research Institute and National Centre for Rural Development here Wednesday. Imtiaz Shaikh said that when accidents occur or natural calamity strikes, there is not much time left to escape the impact and only those who are trained comes to rescue. In Pakistan, he pointed out, it has become the need of hour in view of frequent incidents of terrorism. He said, the scope of training in disaster management should be widened to district level to minimise or escape the losses. The Advisor said, he would speak to Chief Minister to have a functional disaster management system to make the lives of people of Sindh secure. Addressing the workshop, Mehdi Hasan Shaheen, Head of the Institute said that earlier MTIIT has conducted two such courses successfully and this was the third in the series. He said through the training workshop, the participating officers are educated in how to control a difficult situation. He added, MTIIT has so far conducted 270 municipal training courses with UNICEF assistance. Mohammed Akram Kiyani, Director NCRD said that every over 50 programs are carried out under NCRD and now programs are being conceived for training of Nazims and Naib Nazims at the district level and will be started soon. Later, Imtiaz Ahmed Shiakh distributed certificates among the course participants.
